I believe homes are a very personal expression of who we are in this world and creating a space that feels luxurious is a priority to me when I think of how to decorate my home. I want my home to be a cozy and chic place that I love coming back to time and time again. No matter where I live or for how long I live there, I will take the time to set the home up so that it is a place that inspires me to be my best self. I take my home inspiration from places like 5-star hotels and spas, but that is simply my preference. Some may want their home to be more like English cottages or may prefer bright colored maximalist decor and we should all be true to what makes us happy. If you find that like me, you are more inspired by the soothing colors of neutral tones and the beautiful aesthetic of the luxury hotels and spas, then below are some small details that you can incorporate into your home to elevate your decor and style.
-
tissue box covers
If you’re an easy sneezer like I am, then you may have a few tissue boxes throughout the house. I like to keep tissue around for various reasons too like if there is a small spill, but if you want to elevate the look of your home then you can do so by purchasing a tissue box cover for the tissues. The cover simply elevates the entire look to that of a luxury spa. There are many covers out there on the market but try to keep away from those that look too flimsy like plastic covers. They don’t need to cost a lot of money but try to get one that is in a gold, marble or stone finish to create a more luxurious look.
-
vanity trays
Whether it’s a tabletop, nightstand, a shelf, a counter or vanity top, a vanity tray will always elevate the look to one of more luxury. Vanity trays make a space look more put-together and refined, especially when it’s an area that has more than one item on it. It groups things together for a more cohesive look that elevates the space. I prefer to purchase trays in materials like marble, wood, stone, or gold as well.
-
match cloches or strikers
If you are a candle lover like I am then why not bring in a stylish match cloche or striker as part of your decor? I have a couple in my home, and they elevate the space nicely and make it a pleasure to light the candles each night. There are so many variations of match strikers that you can purchase, but if you really want to elevate your space then try picking one with elements that you find beautiful like gold, ribbed glass or marble (read more about these below). The matches are inexpensive to replace and can be purchased easily on Amazon.
-
marble/stone details
Speaking of details, marble/stone is a material that you will often see in my home. This material is such a luxurious touch no matter where it’s placed. It elevates the space by giving off the essence of a luxury hotel with its elegant look. When incorporating details, you want to be sure to not overdo it, just a few pieces in different areas of the home will be optimal so that it’s not too much of one single detail. Try incorporating marble in items like tissue box covers, coasters, trays or candle holders. That way you can subtly incorporate it into the decor without overwhelming the design.
-
ribbed glass
Just like with the marble, ribbed glass is another luxurious look that you can incorporate into your home decor to make the space look more elevated. Glass is a good element to have in decor pieces, but the ribbed glass seems to add a refined touch to the object. You can incorporate the ribbed glass into your decor with objects like vases, soap dispensers, storage jars, or even match cloches.
-
gold accents
I once read a quote from Aerin Lauder where she proclaimed, “gold is a modern day neutral”, and I completely agree. Gold accents can warm up a space and make it feel luxurious and inviting. When using gold, it should be used in the accents of the home in smaller objects like candleholders, small knobs on cabinets, vanity trays, picture frames, etc. Again, you don’t want to overwhelm a space with too much gold, just a few small pieces throughout will have a more refined look to the space.

fresh flowers
Whether you get a fully curated bouquet from a florist, a small bouquet from the store, or even just a single flower picked outside and put into a bud vase, fresh flowers will always give the home a more elevated look. I once heard Tonya Leigh say on a podcast, “flowers are nature’s Chanel” and I thought that was such a great comparison. I have visited a lot of luxurious places in my life including places like Michelin star restaurants, 5-star luxury hotels, and luxury spas and one thing that they inevitably have in common is that they have a beautiful vase of fresh flowers in their space. The best part about flowers is that they are inexpensive with most grocery store bouquets costing less than $10. You can buy or even thrift a simple vase and then you can bring home beautiful flowers each and every week to elevate your home.
