While it is common for nearly every apartment complex to brand themselves as a “luxury” apartment complex nowadays, I can say for certain that where I live is a true-to-form luxury apartment. Not only doles this complex have a 24-hour concierge service, a gym full of Peloton bikes and a sauna, but the top three floors of my apartment are penthouse apartments that have a rent price of over $14,000.00 a month. I myself do not rent a penthouse as my husband and I rent a spacious 1 bedroom/1 bathroom apartment that suits our needs. However, living in one of the premier apartment buildings in my city has taught me a few things about decor as it pertains to luxury surroundings. Here is what I have learned by observation about decor from living in a luxury high-rise apartment.
pick one accent color
Throughout the building there are a lot of neutrals in the style and decor, but when it comes to color there is only one that goes predominantly throughout, and that color is green. You will see green in a lot of the details of the building including pillows, pictures, furniture, flooring and even accent walls. The building does not have different colors strewn throughout, just the one. It makes the complex feel more cohesive and chic and you feel like the selection was tailor made for the luxury surroundings as a way to showcase their style.
place coffee table books strategically
My complex has a lot of coffee table books placed around in different areas throughout. Whether you are in the lobby, waiting for the elevator, or in a common area, you will come across a stack of coffee table books. The books are strategically placed in areas that draws the eye in too. They are placed in a pleasing way with many of them even having decorate objects on top for more visual interest. Placing coffee tables throughout a space looks elevated and cultured even.
let a space breathe
While it can be tempting to have shelves and spaces full of decorative objects placed upon them, it actually looks much better to just let a space breathe by only placing a select few objects out for display. While there are many shelves, cabinets, tables and so on throughout the whole building, all of these spaces are styled very sparsely yet still very chic.
do a gallery wall, but make it cohesive
If you like creating a gallery wall in your home but always seem to not like the end product, try putting together a gallery wall that is more cohesive to create a more stylish look. Sometimes a gallery wall can look cluttered or just not well executed because there may be too many elements clashing. I have noticed in my complex that there are a few gallery walls, but each one looks great because they are cohesive in their themes. In the resident’s coffee lounge, they have a gallery wall of local maps. In the work from home space, they have a wall of circular mirrors of varying sizes. And lastly, in the top floor common room they have a modern art selection in black and white prints. Each gallery wall looks well put together and curated.
light filtering curatins are tres chic
Our building has not only 36 floors, but each apartment also has floor to ceiling windows and the top floor common area in particular has these windows all around. One thing that I have really come to view as very chic are the light filtering curtains. When the sun is out you can close these curtains to give the space an intimate, warm glow. They provide a beautiful setting for the windows as well.
use gold as an accent color
You probably already know that I love using gold in my own apartment as an accent color. The accent really does make for a luxurious and inviting space since gold is a warm neutral. When it comes to selecting an accent color for the home, a warm color will always create a space that looks and feels luxurious. Gold should be used only for accents in things like objects, frames, a light fixture/lamp or in a piece of artwork etc. Too much can overwhelm the space, so keep it simple, but effective.
